Faculty Bios:

Mauro Costa, PhD professor Mauro Costa is a Visiting Professor at ESARQ-UIC, ELISAVA and IaaC in Barcelona and FA-UTL and Lusíada in Lisbon. He holds a Ph.D., a Master in History of Architecture and Design, and a Master in Genetic Architectures: the New Cybernetic Design and the New Ecological Design from ESARQ-UIC, Barcelona. He also holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture from FA-UTL, Lisbon.

His research concerns the analysis of functional analogies between biology and architecture with special emphasis on mass customization based in sustainable processes that can be materialized using CAD/CAM methods.

Mauro Costa has organized and participated in several design and architectural competitions, among which a first and a third place in international competitions for the design of public buildings and urban solutions, as well as others honorable mentions. He has worked for Sonae.com as architect and space manager, developing and coordinating office-building designs and industrial building rehabilitations. He has published and participated in conferences and exhibits and collaborates with several international institutions, among which: eCAADe – Education for Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe, EIN – International School of Bionics and Architecture, International Society for Architectural Innovation, Collegi d´Arquitectes de Catalunya, Generative Components from the Smart Geometry Group at Bentley, Fórum Barcelona, Bioma, High-Tech partners, McNeel Europe.

Pablo Baquero, holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, he studied American Architecture at Cooper Union and Performing Arts at New York University, Bachelor of Architecture U.P.C Bogota, and currently is a PhD candidate in Esarq, Barcelona.  He has been co-teaching and invited to many final reviews as critic at GSAPP Columbia University, Pratt Institute and Parsons University. He has worked with FrankRepasArchitecture in Advanced Modeling and Emerging Systems Research.

Currently participating in international competitions and teaching advanced modeling/parametric software. Also co-teaching  Digital Fabrication and invited to final reviews at Elisava, ESARQ and IED in Barcelona. Involved with different research projects with Alberto Estevez at ESARQ.

Collaborators:

Eleni Kolovou, dipl. Architect Engineer, University of Patras, Greece (2006). Currently pursuing a Master in Advanced Architecture at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain (2009-present).  Published research work on lighting design. Field of interest in academic studies concern parametric design and digital fabrication. Professional career as freelance architect since 2006 with several built projects.

Effimia Giannopoulou, born at Thessaloniki, Greece. Finished architectural studies in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at 2002. Received an M.Sc in Biodigital Architecture in ESARQ, U.I.C at 2009. Freelance architect with an artistic background, involved with research projects and competitions.

Tiago Barros. Tiago Barros’s work process has always been focused on a constant research and questioning of the modus operandi of living experiences. He searches for new multidisciplinary processes to question, reinvent and change the system addressing important contemporary and sustainable demands.Tiago is currently the manager of Simply Rhino Portugal – resellers and trainers of all Rhino software.Tiago worked with the with the Research and Development – Advanced Modeling team at Aedas Architects in London. He has participated in various projects, such as, the Abu Dhabi Investment Council Headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Tiago has also worked as a design architect for Davis Brody Bond in New York. He was part of the World Trade Center Memorial Museum team. He has previously worked in Lisbon with Aires Mateus in projects such as the Park Hyatt hotel in Dublin and the Library and Central Archive in Lisbon. Tiago holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design with Honors from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor of Architecture from Lusíada University in Lisbon.

Pablo Tellez. Diseñador y Arquitecto del paisaje,Master en arquitectura del paisaje,por Elisava(UPF)y ETSAB(UPC)respectivamente.Ha ganado diversos concursos y reconocimientos, Colabora habitualmente en medios de comunicación,y su obra ha sido ampliamente publicada en los medios.En 2010 ha sido profesor invitado en el master Diseño y Arquitectura de Elisava(UPF) y organiza e imparte cursos bajo el nombre ARTS&CAM.
